KMA 9x9 Grid is an ambitious project that divides the world onto squares of 9 meter over 9 meter and applies mapping intelligence to associate squares with every piece of data coming from any source. The Eastern Australia railway network needed a solution to automate railway fault detection and facilitate the technical engineers work. The systems objective was to monitor hardware reliability, analyse statistics and send regular reports. The main challenge was to make the software handle enormous volumes of data received from numerous transponders which had been installed on the rails.

Solution and Result

To help the company manage its technical work, our software engineers developed a system that retrieves data from RFIDs installed in the transponders, stores it in the database; afterwards it analyses the data and creates regular reports. Since the number of RFIDs is large the system has to process large volumes of data, so we used batch processing, external indices and keys for building the database. We also created a separate background service for analysing the data and applied painstaking mathematical calculations to improve performance and output. The end product delivered is now successfully used within the company, contributes to prompt troubleshooting and railway network development.

An Israeli-based start-up team approached us with the idea to create a PhoneGap application for solving scientific equations. The application would combine two functions: semantic web search engine for math and science and maths problem solver.

Solution

As the system would work with large volumes of maths symbols and data, using pure HTML would be unreasonable. So we resorted to LATEX – a specific document markup language for displaying formulas.

Result

Symbolab is a PhoneGap application available for iOS and Android. It allows users to search and solve equations, formulas and expressions using mathematical symbols and scientific notations as well as text. Symbolab solves maths problems. It provides automated step by step solutions to algebraic and calculus topics covering from middle school maths through to college maths. Symbolab offers a wealth of maths calculators including: equations calculator, simultaneous equations calculator, inequalities calculator, integral calculator, derivative calculator, limits calculator, tangent line calculator, trigonometric equations calculator and more. This product can be widely used by students, engineers and scientists.
