These capabilities are improving development speed, creative output, and software quality in measurable ways.
The teams that use AI to boost their efficiency are gaining ground, while those who don't risk falling behind. But overreliance on AI is risky. While AI can support engineers, it doesn’t replace them. For example, AI-generated requirements often lack the depth and context that come from human research and synthesis. Current systems cannot independently design, implement, and maintain complex, production-grade software.
Another growing concern is around the long-term impact of AI on engineering education. When new developers heavily rely on AI during the learning process, that may leave them without the foundational knowledge needed to build, debug, and scale real systems. That gap won’t show up instantly. It may only become clear in high-stakes environments where architectural thinking and sound engineering judgment are critical.
